RoadRUNNER’s Bucket List Roads: The Snake (Aka US-421 in Tennessee) “The Snake” is one of several iconic “named” motorcycle roads in the southern Appalachian Mountains. I personally feel it is more fun for longer than the Tail of the Dragon, The Rattler, and many of the other famous motorcycle roads in this area.

Scenery: Spectacular views of Shady Valley, TN, which roughly marks the halfway point of the ride

Curves: 489 curves covering three mountains and one valley; very smooth tarmac, with an enjoyable mixture of sweepers and hairpins

Traffic: More motorcycles than cars on this rural route

Distance: Mountain City, TN to Bristol, VA, approximately 33 miles

Time Required: About an hour one way of riding time, but recommend stopping at the Shady Valley Country Store to see the V-8 powered lawnmower

Technical Difficulty: High, if ridden at a quick pace
