The Talimena National Scenic Byway is located in Oklahoma and Arkansas and is approximately 54 miles long.

Time Required: The Talimena Byway runs from near Talihina, OK to Mena, AR (hence the name) and can take anywhere from 1.5 hours to all day, depending on the frequency and duration of stops.

Scenery: This byway stretches over the crests of Winding Stair Mountain and Rich Mountain, which are part of the Ouachita chain of mountains. The Ouachitas are the highest points between the Rockies and the Appalachians. The byway has numerous scenic turnouts and historic sites along the way.

Curves: Nothing but curves. The speed limit is 55 mph, which is plenty fast enough to enjoy the route. The curves descending down the mountain into Mena can be unexpectedly tight, so have fun, but be careful too.
