Digital Rider’s “Tenth” Anniversary

While the magazine celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, I’d like to take a moment on the 10th anniversary of the Digital Rider – 10 posts, not 10 years – to make a couple of observations. Everything happens faster in “Internet” time, doesn’t it?

One, I’ve got some good feedback from folks, especially concerning the iPad. There’s some cautious optimism as to what the iPad might become to a digital rider, especially as accessories and apps become available for it. Rex C. notes that a keyboard dock and SD card reader will be available, while Scott W. points to the challenge of using a touch screen with motorcycle gloves on. Capacitive touch screens – the kind used on iPhones and iPads – typically aren’t glove friendly, but I just tested my iPhone with a leather Held riding glove and I was able to get it to work. Interesting…your mileage may vary.

I’ve also gotten some good feedback on some of the other products. It’s all quite welcome, and assures me that people are reading! We’re still working on getting comments hooked up here, but until then, feel free to share your ideas via email. Better yet, join us on the RoadRUNNER Forum (www.roadrunner.travel/vb) and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/RoadRUNNER-Motorcycle-Touring-and-Travel/78486924078) and share your experiences as a Digital Rider.

I’ll wrap this post with what may very well be the future of our two-wheeled digital passion – Jay Leno talking about and riding the Zero S – an electric motorcycle for the street.

If they can get the range up and keep the price and weight down, could you see yourself on an electric bike?

About the author

I am the Digital Rider, Tweeting at gas stations, Four-Squaring at restaurants, and always asking, "does the room have wifi?" I love how technology has changed how motorcycle adventures are planned, documented, and shared, but I'm happiest when a stretch of road is so epic that I puts all the gadgets aside and live and ride in the moment.
