Americade 2009 – Lake George, NY

We just returned from an action-packed week of events at Americade 2009 held in Lake George New York. We were thrilled that so many of you stopped by our booth to say hello. And, of course, there were a multitude of other vendors on hand, displaying offerings that included just about everything from custom earplugs to the latest in motorcycle apparel.

In Christa’s Wednesday night, primetime presentation of “Move Over Guys–Here We Come!” she shared her Top 10 secrets for women riders who want to improve their riding proficiency. She also noted that women riders, one of the fastest growing segments in the motorcycling market, don’t want special treatment, just equal treatment from other riders. Her presentation was well attended and received rave reviews from both women and men for her insights and candid remarks about women riders and the motorcycle industry.

In addition to Christa’s presentation, there were numerous other workshops, how-to seminars, motorcycle apparel fashion shows and featured speakers to entertain and educate attendees. A comedy show, put on by master hypnotist Peter Gross, on Tuesday evening was hysterically funny when otherwise mild-mannered volunteers entertained the assembled crowd with their singing, dancing and other antics.

Motorcycle and scooter manufacturers provided Americade attendees the opportunity to take demo rides on many of their current models. Marquees participating included Kawasaki, KTM, Harley-Davidson, Kymco, Victory, Yamaha, CF Moto, Spyder, Roadsmith, Motor Trike and Thoroughbred Motorsports.

RoadRUNNER, as it has at previous Americade events, sponsored the Vermont High Gaps Tour, which wound through the craggy Adirondack Mountains of New York, crossed beautiful Lake Champlain and traversed several roads leading through gaps in Vermont’s Green Mountains. Hungry riders gathered for lunch at the historic Middlebury Inn in Middlebury, Vermont, before returning to the non-stop festivities at Lake George.

During the first two days of Americade week, RoadRUNNER participated in the press introduction of Kawasaki’s three middleweight cruising motorcycles. The 900cc Vulcans received a thorough workout on scenic back roads in New York’s Adirondack Park and across the bucolic landscape of Vermont’s Champlain Valley and Green Mountains. The group was lodged overnight in Lake Placid, New York, the site of two Winter Olympic Games. The following morning, riders experienced a different kind of thrill ride. The original Lake Placid bobsled course is now devoted to giving summer tourists the bobsled experience on wheels. We moto-journalists experienced a whole new kind of lean angle on these curves! Look for an article on Kawasaki’s middleweight cruisers in an upcoming issue of RoadRUNNER.

If you weren’t able to attend Americade this year, but want to next year, mark your calendar now for June 7-12, 2010.
